Questions to Ask During Your First Meeting with a Potential Faculty Advisor
1. How promising does the faculty finds your research topic? Are there particular directions s/he thinks you should explore in developing a research question? Does the faculty feel like s/he can sponsor the research project? Does the proposed research need to be narrowed down, expanded or otherwise modified (e.g., so that it is a better project and/or so it can actually be carried out in a reasonable amount of time)?
2. How often do they like to meet to discuss project progress?
3. What are the general steps and timeline for carrying out the project? How many drafts are they willing to read? How many days do they require to read a draft?
4. Do they have any books or journal articles they think you must read?
